5 Things to Consider When Choosing a Colour for Your Fence

There are loads of options available to you when it comes to choosing the colour of your fence. There are wood stains that range from the lightest ash, through golden and red hues to the darkest ebony. You can also choose between thousands of colourful paints. Here are some things to consider when choosing a colour for your fence.

  1. Your Surroundings: Take a look at the surroundings. The colour palette for the fence of country cottage might be different from that of a townhouse. Choose a colour that complements the house and garden.
  2. Plant Life: Are you planning to grow any shrubs or flowers on your side of the fence? If so, think about how the colour you choose for the fence will harmonise with the natural colours of the plant life.
  3. Policies and Regulations: In some neighbourhoods, there are regulations restricting what colours houses and fences and doors and windows are allowed to be painted. Make sure that you don’t fall foul of local laws and have to repaint your fence!
  4. Your Neighbours: Chat to your neighbours about the fence. It marks the border between your properties after all. They might have some good ideas for colours or stains.
  5. It’s Not Forever: Remember, it’s only a coat of paint or wood stain. If you decide you don’t like it or wish that you had opted for something different at a later date – you can always change your mind and do it over.

Staining or painting a fence isn’t just an aesthetic decision, it will also help protect the wood – giving your fence a longer life. We build our fences from pressure-treated timber – which you can expect to last 15 years or more if looked after.
